Color Slide Salon Rules

1.  There are two divisions in color slide competition:
"A" Division is for experienced photographers.  Any member may request assignment to this division.  Others may be so assigned automatically.
"B" Division is for all other members.  New members will be assigned to this division unless they request otherwise.  The entrant awarded the most points for the year in the "B" Division color slides will automatically advance to "A" Division the following year.

Members are urged to contact the slide division chairperson to assure proper assignment.  Members may transfer from one division to another when it is agreed between the member and the salon chairperson that such transfer is in the best interest of the club.  The executive committee will arbitrate any disputed assignments.  It is recommended that transfers be delayed to the end of a club year whenever possible.  The executive committee may initiate the transfer of a member to a different division when required to assure fair competition.  If transfer is from "A" to "B" Division, all entry points are retained by the member but all award points are forfeited.  If transfer is from "B" to "A" Division, entry points are also retained, plus a percentage of award points as follows: After 1st (October) Salon- 50%; after 2nd (November) Salon- 25%; after 3rd (December) Salon- 10%; and after 4th (January) Salon- none.

2.  There are three subject categories in each division:
A= Assigned Category
O= Open Category
N= Nature Category

Assigned Category entries must conform to the special assignment for the month and the slide mounts marked "A."
Open Category entries may be of any subject and must be marked "O."
Nature Category entries must conform to the definition of "Nature" as printed in the club booklet and as given on this web site.  Nature entries must be marked with an "N."

3.  Each slide entered must bear the maker's name, category entered, and must
be titled.

4.  All slides must be spotted correctly for projection.
Hold the slide upright so the image appears the way it should on the screen.  Then place a spot in the lower left corner of the slide mount.  The spot must be clearly visible and not easily confused with other markings on the slide.

5. Slides that are so thick they may jam the projector will be rejected.

6.  Each member may enter a total of four slides in each monthly salon.
This may include any number inn each of the three subject categories so long as the total does not exceed four entries.

7.  Entry points will be determined by the following schedule:
One point for entering the salon
One point for each slide entered in the Assigned Category up to two points.
One point for entering one or more slides in the Open Category.
One point for entering one or more slides in the Nature Category.

The maximum of five entry points is obtained by entering two slides in the Assigned Category, one slide in the Open Category, and one slide in the Nature Category.

8.  The judge will select winning entries in each of the categories for each of the two ("A" and "B") divisions.
There will not be a first place, second place etc. as in the print categories, but all winners in the slide categories will be deemed equal.  Each winner will receive three award pints.  Normally there will be three winners in each category, per division, but exceptions will be made if the number of entries is unusually large or small by the following schedule:
Fewer than 6- no more than half the entries shall be winners
6 to 19 inclusive- three winners
20 to 29 inclusive- four winners
30 to 39 inclusive- five winners
40 or more- six winners.

9.  Exposure must have been made by the entrant.

10.  Slides must be picked up after the salon competition.

11.  All winning entries are eligible for the Slide of the Year competition held in May of each Camera Club year.
